Remote Play is a feature that was introduced in the PS Vita, allowing players to connect their handheld device with their PlayStation 4. This will enable players to play their favorite games without being completely tied down to one location. And now, with the introduction of Remote Play for Sony Xperia devices, those with Android phones have this feature as well. With that being said, the only thing missing from Remote Play is the ability to connect it to laptops.

Most people don’t even think about connecting their PS4s to laptops via Remote Play because they don’t know how to do it. You may connect your PlayStation 4 to a computer using nothing more than a USB cable. All you need is an HDMI cord and some software. That’s right. You can even do this with nothing but a computer screen as well. Here are the instructions for connecting your PS4 to your laptop successfully.

Step 1: Connect your PS4 to your Laptop via Remote Play

This might sound like an easy task, but depending on what type of laptops or computers you have, there are different ways of connecting them. To begin connecting the two devices, start up the game that you want to play on your PC monitor (if desired). With both devices connected via an HDMI cord, click “Display Devices” and click on the PS4 (or PC monitor). If you want to do this wirelessly, you need a SMART TV and at least two DualShock 4 controllers. Most laptops prefer to use the HDMI port that goes into your graphics card or computer tower. Devices like Alienware have these ports specifically for this type of connection.

Step 2: Go In-Depth On Remote Play Settings

After connecting the PS4 to the laptop, go in-depth about PS4 remote play settings. Here are some pointers you might not have considered previously:

  • If using a remote play from your PSVita handheld, change PlayStation System Storage Location if you have issues finding it.
  • Don’t forget the turn on the remote play function.
  • Enable air mouse and touchpad options in Remote Play settings if you use them instead of the touchscreen or DS4 controller.
  • PlayStation Vita / PlayStation TV can also connect with a PC via a wireless LAN adapter or USB cable. For PlayStation TV, connect the DualShock 4 controller with a converter for PC USB port (USB micro B<-> A).

Step 3: Through Remote Play: Use your Laptop as your Monitor/Screen

Now that you’ve gotten past connecting your PS4 to your laptop, we can move on to how we use our laptops as monitors for PS4. To do this, go into Settings and click on “Remote Play Connection Settings,” and check “video quality.” From there, you will be able to select the type of picture you want for your display. If using a PlayStation TV, you’ll also use one higher than “Standard (480i)”. Now that we’ve gotten past the initial settings, the next step is connecting it via Remote Play.

Step 4: Connect PS4 to Laptop Using HDMI Through Capture Card

Here’s an issue where you could not connect your PS4 to your laptop, so you should decide to purchase an ACER X1200H gaming capture card that worked perfectly with your laptop. You were finally able to use your laptop as a monitor for playing games on your PS4. It took some tinkering around with the settings, but it worked perfectly once I got them down. Those using the X1200H gaming capture card should go to their device manager to ensure that they have correctly installed the drivers for their software.

The second way to link a laptop to a PS4 is:

  1. It would be beneficial if you had access to the internet on your Playstation 4.
  2. Turn off Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connections on your laptop.
  3. Connect one end of the USB cable to any USB port in your ps4 and another end to your laptop.
  4. Open control panel on windows and go to devise manager -> system devices -> x86 platform controller (or something like that) and update driver software will appear as Motorola MBB z6 PCI-E (coh901318-2a). then choose to install from a list or specific location (advanced) -> show compatible hardware -> select Motorola MBB z6 PCI-E coh901318-2a -> hit next. then choose to install drivers from the internet -> hit next > choose your local adapter (mine is Belkin g wireless router f5d7050) ->hit next, then finish.
  5. Try to connect to it with details below (in case you didn’t do it previously). PS4 gateway address =192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 if your ps4 has worked on any of that configuration, just put the same one in all the boxes below

PS4 username = PSN username you used to log into ps4 system message = something like “connection has been established.”

PS4 password = PSN password you used to log into ps4Remember to turn on the Bluetooth connection again, and it is recommended to restart your ps4. You should be able to play online now.
